and here i thought it wasn’t possible in Karachi!

Ever since the cineplex opened up at Seaview, all i’ve heard are bad things about it. The screen is too small, the decor is tacky, the movie quality is not good, the seats are uncomfortable etc etc etc. Little did i realize then….. these were the nitpickings of those comparing it with foreign cinemas.

I went with a different mindset, comparing it with the staple of movie goers in karachi.. Capri, Prince and Nishat. And what i discovered amazed me! The first thing you notice is how different the place is outfitted. Marble floorings, leather couches, and the fetish for bond movies! Oh, and ofcourse.. the overpriced food items.

Even though the theater was small, it was large enough to seat almost a hundred people (give or take). The movie playing that day was “Holiday” starring Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet, given the fact that i am a guy, i dont really remember who the male actors were apart from they were leads in the movie Alfie, and School of Rock.. but cameron diaz really… really prevented me from looking anywhere else.

Another thing you notice which is different from the other cinemas, mostly due to a different crowd (more defence and more girls), is no boo-ing or cheering during the ‘intimate’ scenes. They censor the really hardcore stuff (as they should), but what they let go atleast didn’t incite the same frustrated  response found in other cinemas which made the whole movie experience worthwhile.

After the movie, we went to have dinner and sheesha at Creek Inn. A little chilli, and a little too crowded on a saturday night, but overall had fun. Again, the best part of the place was no ‘mela crowd’ hanging around, since that place is *ssssoooo* far away.

Not bad right?!

Now maybe next time i can go without my cousins…. hhhmm.. anyone up for a movie?
